20th Anniversary Celebration
Coming on September 28, 2008 and taking place in Georgia's Premier Cycling Venue, the Six Gap Century
& Three Gap Fifty Presented By Dahlonega Wheelworks boasts many of the same roads and mountain climbs
as the elite Tour de Georgia. Come ride the Ride of the Pros!
The Six Gap Century’s ultra challenging route takes you up and down
six of the steepest climbs in the North Georgia Mountains. Test your
stamina with more than 10,700 feet of vertical climbing over the 100
mile course. Elevations for the six gaps in this ride range from 2,949
feet to 3,490 feet. The toughest climb, Hogpen Gap, will test even the
strongest riders, averaging a 7% grade for seven miles, with sections
as steep as 15%.
The Three Gap Fifty’s alternative route offers half the gaps and half
the distance, but is nevertheless a demanding and challenging course.
Elevations range from 3,109 feet to 3,280 feet.
PLEASE NOTE: We have made a major change in the route.
The new route promises more great views, more challenges, and more fun!
100 miles. 10,700 vertical feet. 2,500 friends.

Dahlonega – Host City, Stage Finish
On April 25th, 2008 the opening stage of the mountain phase of America's premier bicycling event returns to Dahlonega. Dahlonega hosts a stage finish for a fourth time, and is the first big test in the mountains for the pro cyclists. Dahlonega is just one hour north of Atlanta in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Located on top of the largest gold deposits east of the Rocky Mountains, Dahlonega was the site of America's first gold rush in 1828. Although the gold rush history takes center stage in town, Dahlonega is fast becoming known as a "mecca for the performing and visual arts." From bluegrass and old-time music to art galleries and theater, there are exhibits and performances almost every weekend. The historic town square is the center of attention in town, beckoning visitors to shop, play, eat and enjoy the best of Dahlonega. Dahlonega is also the center of Georgia's wine industry. As home to four distinct wineries, Dahlonega's vineyard loop is a cyclist’s favorite. This cyclists' haven is home to the infamous Six Gap Century and serves as a year-round training ground for pros and amateur cyclists across the Southeast.
"We are very happy to again be selected as a Host City for the Tour De Georgia. The Tour is an excellent opportunity for the city of Dahlonega to showcase its natural beauty and heritage. It also gives our area the chance to showcase its wonderful cycling opportunities, and thereby creates an outstanding economic venue for the community."
Bill Lewis, Dahlonega City Manager

"The Tour de Georgia has established itself as one of the best
competitions for pro cyclists and for cycling fans. The race is
perfectly placed in the calendar as a good test for my fitness and the
climbing in the mountains is the best of any North American race."
